Cesare Maccari

Cesare Maccari (1840 - 1919) was active/lived in Italy.  Cesare Maccari is known for Painting, fresco.

Cesare Maccari was an Italian painter born in 1840. In 1863 Maccari tried his hand for the first time with fresco painting. He painted in Quinciano the Four Evangelists in the vault of the Marquis Chapel. Later Maccari was known for expressing Nazarene and purists feelings. This allowed him an outstanding career in the early seventies. He was busy painting the corbels of the Church of Santa Francesca Romana in Rome with figures of David and Moses. King Victor Emanuele II commissioned the decoration of the royal chapel of the Holy Shroud. Meanwhile Maccari was tied to the powerful Parisian dealer Adolphe Goupil, who held under contract some of the best Italian painters of the time, which commissioned elegant genre scenes sought after on the international market.
